5 Things I'm Doing to Stay Sane

COVID-19 has taken the world by storm. Just in the last few days, many cities across the country have taken initiative to help stop the spread of the virus, by issuing “Stay at Home” orders.

These are unprecedented times we’re living in. The fact that this virus has disrupted the course of everyday life for billions of people across the world is unheard of.

Those who don’t work “essential jobs”, cannot return to work (in most places until mid-late April). While those who do work essential jobs are putting themselves and those around them in danger.

Those without any PTO, sick-time, etc., cannot provide for their families. While others will have to take care of their children while they work from home - a first for many.

And even though some of us are used to working from home - being confined to our homes is a different story. There are so many new normals that we have to adjust to, and no one truly knows for how long.

Nonetheless, if you are able to work from home, and / or provide for your family comfortably during this time, it shouldn’t be taken for granted. The current state of the world is enough to drive anyone mad! But it is imperative that we stay motivated and optimistic for better days ahead.

DO NOT WFH in Bed

Who wouldn’t want to work in their pjs from the comfort of their bed?! But trust, it gets old fast. And - at least for me - it violates the sacredness out of my bedroom. Even though I have worked in my bed before, I try not to make a habit out of it.

Instead, have a designated work space and design it so that it inspires you to stay productive and maximizes efficiency.

Making the Bed

Besides working as a deterrent from getting back in the bed throughout the day, making your bed in the morning has been scientifically proven to help relieve anxiety and boost productivity.

Yoga

This one is a bit obvious. But instead of indulging in spirits or cannabis to calm your nerves, try meditation or yoga. I love beginning my day with yoga - especially if I know I won’t be able to do any other form of exercise throughout the day.

One of my dear friends is offering a FREE yoga class on IG Live every morning at 9am. Click here for more information.

Challenge Yourself

There’s something about being confined to my home that tests my self control. To help with this, I set limits for myself (snacking, smoking, etc.)  - or I come up with fun weekly / daily challenges. This week I’m staying off of social media unless it’s for the blog, and I’m not drinking coffee after 11am. These things may seem small, but the effort adds up.

Minimize Media Consumption

This is a great time to disconnect!

Although its easier said that done - between being stuck at home, and all that is happening in the world - don’t over-consume media (and that includes social media). Instead, take time to process your emotions during this time, work on side hustle projects, etc.
