A Word From Don Logue on Supporting Black Women

I recently attended a Missouri Progressive Action Group (MOPAG) meeting, which featured State Auditor and Candidate for Governor, Nicole Galloway; as well as a panel on “New Capitalism”, featuring Professor Joseph Stiglitz, Amy Blouin, Glen Koenen, and Don Logue; moderated by Steve Reed.

The conversation was enlightening, and touched on various ways our current capitalistic society can be altered to better serve all citizens. NOT just the 1%.

The list included, but was not limited to; redistributing balance within the economy, revision of tax policies, prison/police reform, etc.

But perhaps the most important piece of the conversation [for me] was when Don Logue, President at Aegis Healthcare Strategies, spoke about his support of Ella Jones, the first black Mayor of Ferguson, and other prominent black women in the community.

“I’ve been blessed by many experiences as a student, researcher, local public official, non-profit executive, business executive, educator, and healthcare provider. But the culmination of my work is seen in the picture on the screen right now.”

“In spite of what our current President tells us about how all of our problems are going to be solved quickly and easily, I know better after 40 years of experience. That’s why this picture is critical, you see author, Karine Jean-Pierre, who has an extraordinary story as the daughter of Haitian immigrants; Ella Jones next to her, who fought hard for five years to overcome the community challenges in Ferguson; Sharon Pace, who has been a leader in the legislator, and a non-profit executive who drives a lot of change in North County; Cheryl Anderson, who is a professor at the Brown School (Washington University St. Louis), as well as at Harris Stowe; and I’m in the back, in the support role…I think it’s important what we’re looking at four black women who are leading the cause for many of the issues that Professor Stiglitz highlights in his work.”
