Murder to Mercy

I’ve been following Cyntoia Brown’s story (through social media), so I was excited to hear about the Netflix documentary, Murder To Mercy: The Cyntoia Brown Story.

But of course, shortly following the release of the trailer, Brown took to social media stating, “while I was still incarcerated, a producer who has old footage of me made a deal with Netflix for an UNAUTHORIZED documentary, set to be released soon. My husband and I were as surprised as everyone else when we first heard the news because we did not participate in any way.”

I hate to hear that a story I’m so interested in learning about isn’t being told the right way - through the eyes of the victor.

Brown is still hopeful that the message will highlight issues within our justice system, which makes me feel better about still wanting to check it out.

The documentary is said to explore her origin, but focus on her redemption.

In short; she was a victim of sex trafficking, and was accused of murdering her captor. Daniel H. Birman directed and produced the film (he also produced Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story).
