Perfume Pick-me-up
The other day I woke up, rolled out of bed, and proceeded with my new-normal morning routine;
I resisted the urge to scroll IG, did my stretches, made my oatmeal, brushed my teeth, rinsed my hooha, threw on my favorite house cardigan, and logged into work. Almost immediately I noticed the air (and my jacket) were a bit stale. It didn’t necessarily smell bad - but it didn’t smell good. And the only thing I like to smell in my house, is good.
I decided to light a candle. And as I was looking for my lighter, Do Son, an eau de parfum by Diptyque stopped me in my tracks. Sun beams literally illuminated the box, and almost as quickly as I noticed the box, I found myself spraying it on and around me.
For the first time ever, I put on perfume to prance around the house! No, it’s not the most profound thing ever, but the feeling that followed was.
As someone who usually mists themselves before leaving the house…I’ve only been doing that once a week - when I run errands (because ya know…quarantine). I’m not someone who wears perfume around the house. I don’t even know if it’s a thing!
But when I did it, I noticed I had more pep in my step. I haven’t necessarily been feeling down, but for the first time in months I felt more alive…more like myself.
I truly underestimated the psychological effects of wearing leggings and sweats all day, everyday - until I blessed myself with the sensual scents of tuberoses, orange blossom, and jasmine.
This small sentiment reminded me that I am that bitch. I wish I had more eloquent words, but those are the words that flowed from my heart.
I still don’t dress up, or wear perfume everyday. But when I need to channel my inner boss, I spray my wrists; pat them dry and proceed with the grind.
During these trying times, the small things have never mattered more. With so much change and uncertainty happening in the world, it’s important to be centered and aware of your physical and mental health. Even if that means wearing perfume while WFH .
